Bachelor star, 40, shares update after brain surgery to remove tumor

Bachelor in Paradise alum Joe Amabile has left hospital and returned home to recover after undergoing brain surgery to remove a ‘blueberry-sized’ tumor.

Amabile, 40, underwent a craniotomy last week to remove a glioma from his brain that was discovered during a full-body scan earlier this summer.

His wife Serena Pitt, 28, shared candid pH๏τos from the star’s recovery, and revealed he was at home after doctors were able to entirely remove the mᴀss.

She wrote: ‘A few peaceful moments from the hospital.

‘Incredibly grateful to the team at NYU Langone Health for their endless patience, care, compᴀssion, and kindness these past few days. 

‘Joe is home recovering, and we’re so grateful to have been in such good hands.’

The former grocery store owner is best known for his two stints on Bachelor in Paradise in 2018 and 2021 after getting eliminated on The Bachelorette

Last week, Amabile shared pH๏τos from his hospital room alongside the caption: ‘They got it all!’

One pH๏τo showed the reality star lying back in his hospital bed with a bandaged head and brandishing a happy grin, while another image had Amabile lounging in a chair giving the peace sign.

Also included was a close-up pH๏τo of Pitt holding his hand.

The reality star who first sH๏τ to fame on The Bachelorette season 14 in 2018 before appearing on Bachelor in Paradise in 2018 and 2021, said the glioma tumor had been discovered after he had a full body scan.

He said on Instagram: ‘So a little medical update. I didn’t share my Prenuvo results because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain. So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor.

‘So I now need to get brain surgery [in two weeks] to get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there. So it’s been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn’t expecting this.

‘I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, “Oh, something like this never happened to me,” and here I am. They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated.’

He added in the caption: ‘This past month has been a lot of ups and downs to say the least. After multiple scans and MRIs I have what looks to be an early stage brain tumor. In two weeks I’ll be undergoing a craniotomy to have it removed — yeah brain surgery — @memorialsloankettering.

‘I’m doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends.

‘I’ve gone back and forth about what I wanted to share on social media but ultimately this is part of my life now, so might as well. Onto a new journey.’

Amabile has been married to Pitt since 2022, who he met on Bachelor in Paradise in 2021.

Pitt commented: ‘You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together. I love you.’

Amabile first came into the spotlight when he was one of the eligible bachelors vying for Becca Kufrin on The Bachelorette Season 14 in 2018.

He was eliminated on the first night but his affable personality saw him dubbed ‘Grocery store Joe’ and saw him parlay his fame into an appearance on Dancing With the Stars.
