A Lengthy Path to Justice
Ethan Vernonâs nightmare began on December 11, 2025, when he left work and went to visit Sarah Haning, his girlfriend of over three years. He never returned. The following day, his truck was found torched on Hemlock Grove Road with his body hidden in the backseat and a gun placed in the front seatâa clear attempt to stage the scene and destroy evidence.
For nearly 11 agonizing weeks, his family waited for DNA confirmation, which finally came on February 27, 2026. Throughout the investigation, Sarah Haningâs behaviorâincluding cutting off contact with Ethanâs family, changing her name online, and avoiding his memorial vigilâdrew intense public suspicion. Today, those suspicions were validated in court indictments.

âA Significant Milestoneâ
The sweeping arrests bring a long-awaited sense of justice to the Vernon family, who have spent months pleading for answers.
âThis investigation has been a lengthy and complex effort, and todayâs arrests are the result of countless hours of work by our detectives,â Sheriff Scott Fitch said in an official statement. âWhile these arrests mark a significant milestone, the investigation remains active, and we will continue to pursue every available lead to ensure justice is served for Ethan Vernon and his family.â
Sheriff Fitch extended his graŃΚŃude to Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith, the Athens County SRT, and the Ohio BCI for their critical á´ssistance in bringing the suspects into custody safely.
The Haning family members are currently being held pending their arraignments. Authorities note that additional information will be released as the ongoing investigation permits.
Justice is finally moving forward for Ethan Vernon. We will continue to follow this story as court proceedings begin.
