Community Honors Javeayah Harris as Grandfather Shares Emotional Message During Candlelight Vigil
AIKEN COUNTY, South Carolina — Hundreds of family members, friends, neighbors, first responders, and community supporters gathered in Aiken County to honor the memory of 4-year-old Javeayah Kemauni Harris during an emotional candlelight vigil following recent developments in the ongoing investigation.
The memorial brought together people from across the region, many carrying candles, stuffed animals, flowers, and pH๏τographs of Javeayah Kemauni Harris.
Throughout the evening, prayers were offered, hymns were sung, and supporters shared messages of love while remembering the young girl and standing beside her extended family during an incredibly difficult time.

One of the most emotional moments came when Javeayah’s grandfather, the father of Michilae Herring, addressed those gathered.
Holding back tears, he simply said, «She wasn’t raised that way,» a brief statement that deeply moved many in attendance and reflected the heartbreak felt throughout the community.
Community leaders encouraged residents to continue supporting one another and to remain committed to protecting children.
Many attendees said the vigil was not only about mourning Javeayah Kemauni Harris, but also about showing that her life mattered and that she would never be forgotten.
The investigation remains active. Sheriff Marty Sawyer said investigators continue reviewing evidence as prosecutors move forward with the case.
Michilae Herring and Johmarea Harris remain in custody while legal proceedings continue.
As candles illuminated the night sky, those gathered closed the vigil with prayers and messages of hope, promising to keep Javeayah Kemauni Harris in their hearts and to continue supporting everyone affected by this heartbreaking case.
