Riverdale, Georgia – The Riverdale community is coming together to remember 6-year-old Ramon «RJ» Jett after authorities confirmed that the search for the young boy had come to a heartbreaking conclusion near the Sutter Lake Apartments in Clayton County.
Family members, neighbors, and supporters continue surrounding his loved ones with prayers and messages of comfort as the investigation moves forward.
According to the Clayton County Police Department, RJ was reported missing on Sunday, June 28, after he was last seen near the apartment complex on Webb Road.
Because RJ was nonverbal and had autism, authorities immediately launched a large-scale search involving police officers, detectives, K-9 units, dive teams, drones, firefighters, and volunteers from across the community.
On Monday morning, search crews located Ramon «RJ» Jett in a nearby pond, approximately 125 yards from where he had last been seen.
Police notified his family shortly afterward and confirmed that detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials have not released additional findings while the investigation remains active.
Throughout the search, residents of Riverdale worked alongside first responders by checking neighborhoods, wooded areas, and nearby properties.
Community members also provided water and support to search teams, reflecting the unity and compᴀssion shown during the extensive operation.
RJ’s mother, Ashleigh Harris, had shared that her son loved numbers, letters, and nursery rhymes, encouraging anyone who might see him to gently call him by his nickname, «RJ.»
Her message spread quickly across social media as thousands joined efforts to help locate the young boy.
As the community continues honoring Ramon «RJ» Jett, flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, and handwritten notes have been placed near the apartment complex in his memory.
