Former Louisiana mayor turns herself in on child Sєx crime charges days after resigning

DERIDDER, La. (TND) — Louisiana police on Thursday arrested a former mayor for Sєx crimes against a minor, just five days after she reportedly resigned.

Misty Roberts, whoserved as the DeRidder, Louisiana mayor for several years, turned herself in to Louisiana State Police on charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Investigators interviewed a juvenile who claimed Roberts had Sєx with them during her time as mayor, according to the agency. Police said another minor supported the claim, leading officers to acquire a warrant for her arrest.

She submitted a letter of resignation to the DeRidder City Council on Saturday, according to the news outlet. In it, Roberts wrote she had to “adjust” her focus and priorities while noting the position provided her “great relationships.”

“For nearly 15 years, my love and pᴀssion for DeRidder has been my foundation while serving as Mayor,” she said. “I will forever be proud of what we have been able to accomplish – together. This role has rewarded me with many great relationships.”

Roberts also thanked the city for its trust.

“To the residents of this city: Thank you for your trust, love and support in me to lead our city into our future of greatness. My love for DeRidder will never waver,” she wrote.

Adam Johnson, the former mayor’s attorney, said in a statement obtained by KPLC News 7 that Roberts maintains her innocence.

“We trust the public will respect her consтιтutional presumption of innocence which is fundamental to our system of justice,” he said. “Misty and her family are very grateful for the support they have received from their friends and neighbors and we look forward to putting this unfortunate situation behind them.”

Johnson added that police issued a warrant for her arrest without trying to get her side of the story.
