Heroic security guard named as ‘protector’ after dying in San Diego Islamic Center shooting

A security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego is being hailed for his “heroic actions” during Monday’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅly shooting rampage that left five people ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, including two teenage suspects.

Police said the guard, who is a father of eight, helped save many lives as chaos erupted inside the mosque and school campus.

Community members have identified the security guard as “Amin.”

Dozens of people flooded the social media comments of Amin Abdullah, mourning the loss a “true hero who gave his life to protect others.”

“The nicest man you’ll ever meet,” another user said. “May Allah bless you.”

While police haven’t independently confirmed Abdullah was a victim, authorities confirmed he “played a pivotal role in ᴀssisting, this could have been worse.”

”We do believe the security guard was able to help at least minimize the situation to the front area of the mosque,” San Diego police chief Scott Wahl officer added.

”His actions were heroic, he saved lives today.

“The heroic actions of the officers and deputies are beyond belief. To run toward gunfire without asking questions is remarkable.”

Authorities said officers swarmed the Islamic Center within four minutes of the first emergency calls, launching what police described as a fast-moving and “dynamic” response.

“No community should ever have to go through this,” chef Wahl said.

Authorities identified five deceased individuals, including the two teenage suspects. Three others killed were ᴀssociated with the Islamic Center, officials said.

Police said the suspects died from self-inflicted wounds.

Between 50 and 100 officers entered the Islamic Center during the response as police searched classrooms, prayer areas, and surrounding buildings.

Investigators have not released a motive and said the investigation remains ongoing.
