💍 “No One Knew the Details” — Jennifer Nettles Shares What Made Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding So Special

Jennifer Nettles is honored to have been “a little part” of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s love story.

While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the opening night of her off-Broadway musical, Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo on July 10, the Sugarland lead vocalist, 51, reflected on how “special” it was to witness the pop superstar and Kansas City Chiefs тιԍнт end’s star-studded Madison Square Garden wedding.

“To be a part of even a small part of their story for me was super special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their artistry,” Nettles says. “It’s such an important time in their lives. To be able to witness that very special moment, it’s beautiful.”

While Swift, 36, and Nettles have been fans of each other for years and even collaborated on Sugarland’s 2018 hit, “Babe,” the former Farmer Wants a Wife host admits that she was surprised that she got an invitation to the mᴀssive celebration.

“It all surprised me, because of course, no one knew anything,” she explains of the wedding. “I guess people had — there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer to the time.”

Ultimately, around 1,000 guests — including hundreds of A-list celebrity friends and industry tastemakers — gathered in the iconic New York City arena to support the couple as they each spent 20 minutes reading their vows from gold books.

While Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, the singer’s brother Austin served as her man of honor while Kelce’s brother Jason was his best man.

“I’m so proud to have been even a little part of her story,” Nettles emphasizes. “Obviously, throughout her history, she and I have worked together before, and I have such an admiration for her and what she has done.”

“As a songwriter, you can’t touch her,” she adds. “She’s the biggest artist of all time, really of our generation.”

Nettles’s attendance at the wedding came after she told PEOPLE in Feb. 2024 that she wanted “the best” for Swift and Kelce, who began dating in the summer of 2023.

“Taylor is such a lovely human being, and I want her to find love just like everybody else,” she said at the time. “I am invested in that for her.”
