Parents of Javeayah Kemauni Harris Charged as Search Continues

AIKEN COUNTY, South Carolina — The investigation into the disappearance of 4-year-old Javeayah Kemauni Harris has entered a new phase after authorities announced the arrests of both of her parents and revealed that investigators believe the child p4ss3d 4w4y weeks before she was reported missing.

During a press briefing, Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer said investigators have gathered evidence indicating that Javeayah Kemauni Harris had been d3c34s3d for approximately one month before the emergency call reporting her missing was made on June 30.

Sheriff Sawyer confirmed that the investigation is now focused on recovering the child’s r3m41ns.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Johmarea Harris, Javeayah’s father, on a charge of h0m1c1d3 by child abuse.

Her mother, 22-year-old Michilae Herring, was arrested on charges of h0m1c1d3 by child abuse and filing a false police report. Investigators stated that additional criminal charges could be filed as the case continues to develop.

Search operations have not ended despite the arrests. Law enforcement agencies, including the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), continue searching an area of interest outside Aiken County in hopes of locating Javeayah Kemauni Harris and gathering additional evidence.

Helicopters, specialized search teams, and other investigative resources remain actively involved.

Sheriff Marty Sawyer thanked local, state, and federal agencies, volunteer firefighters, emergency management personnel, and community members who participated in the extensive search efforts.

He also expressed condolences to Javeayah’s extended family and asked the public to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue collecting evidence and following new leads.

Authorities emphasized that locating Javeayah Kemauni Harris remains their highest priority while prosecutors prepare the next steps in the criminal case involving Johmarea Harris and Michilae Herring.
