Salma Hayek was relentlessly teased by her 18-year-old daughter Valentina in a charming display of their repartee.

The 59-year-old actress shares Valentina with her French billionaire husband Francois-Henri Pinault, whom she has been married to since 2009.

As the teenage ‘nepo baby’ emerges into the spotlight, she has begun to train her world-famous mother in the intricacies of contemporary public life.

Valentina was seen struggling to train her mother how to use social media in their joint appearance on the Instagram series CARversations.

She took particularly scathing aim at Hayek’s Instagram bio, a lengthy and incomprehensible stream of emojis reminiscent of tweets by Cher, 80.

‘That’s gotta go,’ Valentina said. ‘I remember the first time I saw your bio, I thought: “She put her phone in her pocket and didn’t realize that she was on: ‘edit the bio.'”‘

‘I am very much about images so I love my emojis,’ the From Dusk Till Dawn bombshell insisted, leaving her daughter decidedly unimpressed.

Valentina wondered aloud why her mother had selected such apparently random icons as a duck, a shooting star, a tiger and a lollipop.

Hayek explained that Valentina had used Instagram via a private ‘teen account’ that offered ‘protections’ and curated ‘age-appropriate content for you to create your own style and taste because you’re so artistic, but still within the right things for your age.’

The pair were also filmed going vintage shopping, offering Valentina a chance to express her disdain for her mother’s splashy taste in florals and leopard prints.

Hayek gave up and preemptively asked: ‘But this is a no-no, right?’ about one dress, as Valentina confirmed: ‘That’s always gonna be a no. It has pockets, Mom.’

‘I have a daughter who knows she can say anything to me,’ Hayek gushed in a new interview promoting the CARversations episode in Elle. 

‘She doesn’t have to hold back or feel like she’s going to be judged. She can tease me, and she can just be herself. She’s fun…It’s so nice to do activities together, have a good time together, and be girls together.’

Hayek shared: ‘There’s very little that can surprise me about what comes out of Valentina’s mouth, because by now I’m used to hearing the unexpected over and over. She’s always surprising me, so I’m not surprised that I’m always surprised.’

In her attempts to instruct her mother on the finer points of using Instagram, Valentina ‘started blocking accounts,’ Salma explained.

‘I was like: “Why am I getting this?” And she said: “Oh, no, no, no. Mom, let’s block this, this, this, and that.” She was protecting me because I didn’t know how to do it.’

Meanwhile, Hayek has had to erect one of her own guardrails – refusing to check her direct messages in spite of Valentina’s ‘trying to teach me how’ to do so.

‘Not checking them is my own way of protecting myself and limiting the time I spend on Instagram. The few people who need me know they have to text me; otherwise, you can stay there forever,’ Hayek explained. 

The Frida actress, who was 41 when her daughter was born, acknowledged that ‘I had her quite late, and I wasn’t tech-savvy even before.’

She shared: ‘I got into Instagram quite late too, so for me, it was a completely new universe – and one that I actually learned to enjoy a lot.’
